ILOILO City – The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) is the top university in Western Visayas and the 17th overall among 229 universities in the Philippines for 2023, according to EduRank.
EduRank.org is an independent metric-based ranking of 14,131 universities from 183 countries. It uses a proprietary database with an index of 44,909,300 scientific publications and 1,237,541,960 citations to rank universities across 246 research topics.
EduRank recently released its List of 100 Best Universities in the Philippines based on research outputs, non-academic prominence, and alumni influence.
The rankings are determined by analyzing 373K citations received by 30.4K academic publications made by 229 universities from the Philippines, the popularity of 889 recognized alumni, and the largest reference database available.
Aside from earning spots on the regional and national level, UPV also ranked 2,132nd in Asia among 5,830 universities and 5,788th among 14,131 universities worldwide.
The list further showed that UPV is ranked 695th among 1,012 universities for the Wildlife and Fisheries Management and Conservation academic field.
It also ranked 3,234th in Environmental Science, 1,032nd in Oceanography, and 3,593rd in Biology.
The universities in Western Visayas included in the top 100 are the following:
* West Visayas State University
* Central Philippine University
* John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, and
* University of Iloilo – PHINMA.
Meanwhile, three constituent universities of the UP System are part of the top 10 rankings for the national level. UP Diliman is ranked first, while UP Manila and UP Los Baños are fifth and sixth, respectively.
