THE REGION 1 office of the Department of Tourism has accredited the research and development farm of Allied Botanical Corporation (ABC) in Pangasinan as a “Day Farm” agri-tourism destination.

Now on its 12th series, this year’s Open House event dubbed “ABC’s Take Off to Agri-tourism” is set to be more festive and tourist-oriented than ever.

For less than a 30-minute drive from the Carmen Exit of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) in Pangasinan, motorists can reach the ABC’s Allied Agro Tech Incorporated (AATI) research farm in Barangay C. Lichauco, Tayug, where the event will be held.

Commuters can also reach the event site by riding on board passenger buses, jeepneys, and even tricycles from the Carmen Exit of TPLEX.

For tourists and leisure travelers who are going to the northern part of Luzon, the “ABC’s Take Off to Agritourism” will surely make their trip more exciting as the company showcases its formal entry into the Philippine Agro-Tourism sector.

Aside from the field day programs, such as games, seminars, and Agri-trade fair, visitors can also enjoy going around the 2,100-square-meter “SUNFLOWER MAZE” – an activity that will bring out the navigational ability of a participant to find the right way to get out of the man-made sunflower garden.

There will also be a “pick-and-pay” are where visitors and health-conscious individuals can have the opportunity of harvesting different kinds organically-grown fruits and leafy vegetables.

Participants can also go around the exciting Urban and Edible Landscape Garden which will be a good venue for selfies and groupies, among other surprise activities.

It will also be a worthy stopover for those travelling with their kids because the event will be very educational and fun-filled as the children will be introduced to the wonderful world of agriculture.

The ABC’s 23-hectare research and development farm breeds and screens most of its new vegetable varieties, which after years of careful and rigid testing, are eventually released for distribution to farmers and agriculture enthusiasts all over the country.

ABC will also be featuring its colorful collection of annual flowering plants and cut-flowers which are all arranged in a beautifully landscaped garden.

ABC is primarily aimed at developing vegetable varieties to suit local growing conditions which include breeding for high-yield and resistance against local pest and diseases – selecting varieties with superior adaptability to tropical conditions.

This is part of the ABC’s commitment to the Filipino farmers and consumers, as well as its objective of educating the youth and protecting our environment.

As an added attraction, the Trade Partners of ABC will also be exhibiting their respective products and services.

Souvenir shops will also be made available for those who would want to buy Condor gift items and products.

And for those who would want to refresh and recharge their busy bodies, food kiosks will be made available around the event’s area.

With these features and exciting activities, it’s time to mark your calendar and join this year’s agritourism event in the newly-accredited “Day Farm” destination in that part of the country./PN
