PROPER application of organic fertilizer could boost the productivity of decades-old mango trees.
Florencio Labitad, a mango contractor in Bukidnon, says that the Amino Plus Foliar Fertilizer significantly influenced the number of fruits that can be harvested per tree.
Labitad, however, said that it is not enough for a farmer to make the trees bear fruit – he should know the problems and solutions.
During a recent visit to the mango orchard that Labitad is managing in Bukidnon, he says he was reluctant at first to use an organic fertilizer due to what others claim as it is less potent compared with other commercial fertilizers.
But after applying the trial package offered by Amino Plus Foliar Fertilizer, he says that his perception about the product changed because of the initial encouraging results he was able to observe from the mango trees that were treated with the organic fertilizer.
After all, proper fertilization could provide the trees and plants the nourishment they need as nutrients are continuously depleted from them.
Labitad then started spraying 84 mango trees at the orchard he was managing with Amino Plus – most of which are already decades-old.
The initial spraying was done after 35 days or right after the fruit setting stage of the targeted trees.
Afterwards, regular spraying was done on a weekly basis until such time that the fruits reached the ideal size for the bagging stage.
Labitad says that it is important to wrap the fruits because it improves the fruit quality, and at the same time, reduces rejects, which is estimated to be from 60 percent to 15 percent of the total harvest.
When the targeted harvest time almost came, Labitad noted that the fruits became early maturing – meaning they were able to harvest the mangoes after 110 days, instead of the usual 120 days.
He says that this development is impressive but added that he became more impressed after knowing that they were able to harvest some 81,000 fruits from the initial mango trees that were sprayed with Amino Plus Foliar Fertilizer.
Before using the product, Labitad admitted that they can only harvest up to a little more than 50,000 fruits per cycle.
“With the use of Amino Plus Foliar Fertilizer and propertechnology, I’m optimistic that the other decades-old mango tress at the farm would eventually be revitalized to become more productive,” he says.
Using the techniques he learned from his experience, plus the technical support he is getting from Global Green Organic Fertilizer (makers of Amino Plus), Labitad says that he will be using the product on the other mango trees under his care at the farm – all are of the carabao variety.
Plants sprayed with Amino Plus will become more resistant to diseases and other stresses in the environment – like extreme drought or flooding.
When sprayed, it effectively adheres to the plant’s surface and provides quick supplementation.
It also contains effective microorganisms which can give long-term beneficial effects on the physical, chemical, and biological condition of the soil./PN
