SOME feng shui experts are saying that more people should be using red or purple colored objects to attract fortune, luck, and pleasant healthin relation to 2017 as the Year of the Rooster.
Apparently, purple is an admired hue, and is commonly used to attract good energy.
It is even linked to spiritual awareness, including mental and physical healing.
Generally, purple is considered as a soothing and calming color, and can be associated with well-being and good health.
But in terms of its connection in the field of healthful foods, purple-colored fruits and vegetables are now becoming popular due to Anthocyanin.
It is usually found in blue, red, and purple fruits and vegetables, like purple corn.
In fact, purple corn variety is becoming popular among many Filipinos.
According to Rudy Dean, the regional sales manager of Allied Botanical Corporation (ABC) for Regions 4A and 5, anthocyanin is said to improve the function of the heart, eyes, and the nervous system.
He claimed that anthocyanin can lower cholesterol, which could help in preventing heart diseases and hypertension.
It was learned that purple corn, with its rich antioxidant content, can also help to protect us against cancer, diabetes, and obesity.
For being a natural food, purple corncan help restore the amount of collagen in the body, which could help delay ageing.
Collagen is also believed to improve the appearance of the skin, nails and hair.
Actually, purple corn has been available for thousands of years already.
It was believed to have been planted first by the Incas of Peru some 4,000 years ago.
Here in the country, the seeds of purple corn can now be sourced from Allied Botanical Corporation.
It is known as Purple Magic, which is under the Condor Seeds brand.
Purple corn is cultivated just like planting the ordinary sweet corn and white corn.
It can also be harvested after 75 days from the time of planting the seeds.
During last year’s edition of Agrilink that was held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, the purple corn variety of ABC attracted the interest of many visitors.
Freshly harvested purple corn was made available, cooked, in one of the outdoor exhibit booths of ABC at a very affordable price.
It is very sweet-tasting, soft, and very nice and enjoyable to eat from the cob when boiled or steamed.
Incidentally, Purple Magic is one of the highlights of this year’s Open House event which is dubbed “ABC’s Take Off to Agritourism.”
This developed after the Department of Tourism in Regtion-1 accredited the research and development farm of Allied Botanical Corporation in the province of Pangasinan as a “Day Farm” agritourism destination.
It will start on February 17 and is expected to go on for three months at the ABC’s 23-hectare research and development farm where it breeds and screens most of its new vegetable varieties, which after years of careful and rigid testing, are eventually released for distribution to farmers and agriculture enthusiasts all over the country./PN
