ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) is being eyed for conversion into a city government department.

According to Councilor-elect Sedfrey Cabaluna, during the campaign period he conferred with homeowners’ associations in various city government relocation sites and learned of their concerns.

The ICUPAO as a city government could better address concerns related to the urban poor such, among others, relocation, data gathering and banking, documentation,  and even legal concerns, said Cabaluna, a lawyer.

The No.1 councilor in the recent elections would also like to focus on improving the city’s tourism sector.

Having worked with the Department of Tourism, he stressed the importance of collaboration with other local government units to achieve tourism goals.

The youth is also a priority, added Cabaluna.

“I want to empower young people, especially kon may mga idea sila to better their community. We would like to provide them with the resources,” he said.

Cabaluna acknowledged the public’s high expectations of him as No. 1 councilor.

“Wala pa kita actually may napamatud-an by winning as No. 1… Hopefully… mapatasan kon ang ila pagsalig sa pagserbisyo sa ila for the next three years,” said Cabaluna./PN
