MANILA – Rain or Shine Elasto Painters center Beau Belga has agreed to join the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers coaching staff.
Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo confirmed the signing of Belga as big men’s coach in a bid to strengthen UST’s frontline. It will be the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) veteran’s first coaching foray.
“Beau has agreed to join us,” Ayo said. “He will be a big help sa team dahil madami tayong mga big man na may potential sa team.”
The Tigers currently has a number of centers in its lineup led by University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 82 Most Valuable Player Soulemane Chabi Yo, Dave Ando, Christian Manaytay and Ira Bataller.
Also, the UAAP Season 82 Men’s basketball runner-up recently secured the commitment of UST Tiger Cubs big man John Bismarck Lina.
Belga is a two-time PBA champion with the Painters. He also had stints with Magnolia Hotshots, Burger King Whoppers and the Meralco Bolts.
A former Philippine Christian University Dolphins center before his professional career, he was tapped to play for the national men’s basketball team several times and has won a gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games basketball./PN
