MANILA – University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses made a quick work of the University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Ejiya Laure tallied 14 points, on 12 attacks, one block and a service ace, while Cherry Rondina and rookie Ysabel Jimenez had 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Golden Tigresses.
Rookie Maria Fe Galanza finished with 26 excellent sets, while Janel Delerio had 11 excellent receptions for the Golden Tigresses, which moved up to 7-4 win-loss record.
Knowing that the Lady Warriors had the tendency to pull off an upset, the Golden Tigresses jumped to an early lead in each sets before preventing their opponents from coming close to move closer to a Final Four seat.
“Si UE kasi may threat. Any moment na mabigyan mo lang ng kaunting momentum para sakanila kakainin ka nila ng buhay,” said Tigresses mentor Emilio Reyes. “Kaya inanalyze namin ‘yung past games nila.”
Judith Abil had double-double 11 points and 15 excellent receptions, while Kath Arado also had 21 digs and 12 receptions for the Lady Warriors, which slid down to 2-9 win-loss card.
In the second game, Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws joined the Golden Tigresses at 7-4 after taking down the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22.
Heather Guino-o top-scored with 22 points while Jerrili Malabanan contributed 17 markers for the Lady Tamaraws. Diana Carlos carried the Lady Maroons (6-5) with 22 markers./PN
