BACOLOD City – University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses rookies Cassie Carballo and Elisha Apostol are thrilled with their Western Visayas homecoming. They face Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles on Sunday at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum here.
According to Carballo of Silay City, Negros Occidental, she is excited to play in front of her fellow Negrenses now as a member of the Golden Tigresses volleyball team.
“I am really looking forward to that day since I heard the news that we will be playing in Bacolod City,” she told Panay News.
“It is extra special for me because I came from there and the city has become a witness to my early years as a volleybelle. Also, it is my first time to play in front of family and friends as a UST player,” she added.
Carballo last played in Bacolod City as a member of the Living Stones International School girls volleyball team before being recruited to play for De La Salle-Zobel in UAAP juniors.
Carballo had an efficient debut for the Golden Tigresses in their first two games in the Shakey’s Super League against Adamson University Lady Falcons and San Sebastian College Lady Stags.
The Iloilo City native Apostol, for her part, is also excited to return to the region. She hopes to have a good performance against the Blue Eagles.
“It was so nice to return to Bacolod City as a member of UST Golden Tigresses. I remembered playing several games here during my high school years with Ateneo de Iloilo and Ateneo de Cebu,” Apostol said.
“As a player based in Western Visayas, it is extra special to play here as a member of a Manila-based school. I also have friends there so I look forward to play there,” she added.
The Golden Tigresses and the Blue Eagles have recent history in UAAP women’s volleyball. They faced each other in Season 84 step-ladder semifinals and in Season 82 championship series./PN
