ILOILO City – Uswag Ilonggo party-list’s Rep. James “Jojo” Ang vowed to focus on addressing the power transmission, supply and distribution problem in Iloilo and the whole Western Visayas.
He said he would push for better facilities needed for the electricity grid being managed by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) and help power distributors become more efficient .
“Tutukan naton ini. We will continue to monitor and ensure accountability and responsibility from NGCP and all our power suppliers, for the benefit of the Ilonggo people,” said Ang.
The Ilonggo solon also thanked his fellow leaders in Region 6 for uniting to immediately address the recent blackout.
“Amo ini ang manami. Gabuligay kita tanan. Rest assured, indi kita mag-untat lang diri after achieving a short-term answer to our problem. Hatagan naton sang long-term nga solution para indi ta na ma-eksperyensyahan ini liwat,” he added.
Ang, along with Iloilo governor Arthur Defensor Jr. and Iloilo City mayor Jerry Treñas, led an online emergency meeting on Saturday with the energy sector stakeholders to address the April 27 to 29 blackout in Panay Island and Negros Occidental.
During the meeting, the local leaders were able to get the commitment of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to fully restore power before 12 noon yesterday, which it did.
“Indeed, if there is a will, there is a way. Even if we are faced with challenges, importante nagtinguha kita mahatagan sang immediate solution ang kinahanglanon sang aton nga mga pumuluyo. Indi lamang ang mga businesses but more importantly ang mga ordinaryo nga mga tawo nga indi kasarang magbakal generator ukon mag-check-in sa mga hotels. Amo ina ang aton priority. Our efforts are always for our people,” Ang stressed.
Ang also thanked the representatives and officials of the Department of Energy under Secretary Raphael Lotilla, Energy Regulatory Commission, NGCP, power suppliers and distributors (MORE Power, electric cooperatives of Capiz, Guimaras, Aklan, Iloilo, and the Bacolod City-based Central Negros Electric Cooperative.
