ILOILO – The provincial government may set up coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination centers in transport terminals, among other strategic sites, to further make the vaccine for the disease more accessible to people.

Other possible venues are construction sites, said Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.

“Vaccine hesitancy gid ang aton subong nga problema. Kapila na kita mag-launch sang lain-lain nga strategies….mahinay ang saka sang first dose….may problema kita sa pag-first dose,” he lamented.

As of Feb. 20, the number of residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19 reached 1,072,180 individuals (64 percent of the 1,448,757 target population).

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has a vaccination site at the transport terminal in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia, Iloilo near Robinsons Place Pavia. There, commuters may have their first or second vaccine doses, or booster shots. Defensor wants to replicate this throughout the province.

Sa municipalities, nagadala sila sa mga barangay sang vaccination teams. Sa capitol, dal-on namon ang bakuna sa construction sites, transport terminals, sa kon diin-diin da. We will make COVID-19 vaccination convenient. Amo na ang strategy naton,” said Defensor.

In the last quarter of 2021, the vaccination team of the capitol conducted “Bakuna sa Barangay” (in barangay halls and barangay covered gyms) that specifically targeted, among others, unvaccinated senior citizens./PN
