Valderrama posts second death due to coronavirus

VALDERRAMA, Antique – This municipality recorded its second death from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) – a 73-year-old female from Barangay Buluangan 1.

This woman was also the town’s 16th confirmed COVID-19 case, said Mayor Joyce Roquero.

The patient had fever on April 9 and was confined at the Valderrama Municipal Hospital on April 23 for breathing difficulties.

There, she was subjected to rapid antigen test. The result showed her positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The patient was then transferred to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital (ASMGH) in San Jose, the referral hospital for COVID-19 cases in the province. There, she was swabbed for another test, this time via reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) machine. She again tested positive for the viral disease.

The patient died on April 25.

According to Roquero, majority of the identified first and second layer contacts of this case were traced and subsequently quarantined.

“We are requesting for their continued cooperation and to always abide by the imposed quarantine protocols,” added Roquero.

She reminded the public to “always practice minimum public health standards such as the wearing of the facemasks and face shield, social distancing and frequent hand washing.”’

“Avoid non-essential travel and spreading unverified information,” Roquero added./PN
