MANILA – Philippine volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez is playing as import for a Chinese-Taipei team in a volleyball league later this year.
In a video clip posted on the Twitter account of former Ateneo Lady Eagles teammate Gretchen Ho, Valdez revealed that she has reached a deal to play for Attack Line from October to December.
“I’m excited not only to play volleyball but also to experience the culture in Chinese-Taipei,” said the four-time Premier V-League MVP. “Exciting talaga kasi first time ko din sa Chinese-Taipei.”
Valdez, 24, admitted that she received an offer to suit up for Chinese-Taipei in 2015 but she declined.
“Two years ago, coaches of the national team of Chinese-Taipei asked me to go there, but I had one more playing year for the UAAP,” she said.
Valdez got the green light to suit up abroad since her Philippine Volleyball League team Creamline Cool Smashers is not playing until next year.
Her stint with Chinese-Taipei will be Valdez’s second time to play as import overseas. Earlier this year she suited up for 3BB Nakornonnt squad in Thailand./PN
