Valentine’s Day fire razes 15 houses in Bacolod City

BACOLOD City – A fire of still unknown origin broke out in Barangay 17 here on Friday night, February 14.

According to the city’s the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), eight houses were destroyed and seven others were partially damaged.

The fire started at 8:18 p.m. and reached the second alarm status before a “fire out” was declared at 8:56 p.m.

The fire originated from the house of Rey Mirador but authorities were still investigating the cause of the blaze as of this writing.

The BFP-Bacolod City said property damage was estimated to have reached P281,750 and 15 families were displaced.

Meanwhile, the city’s Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) immediately extended assistance to the fire victims.

DSSD head Dr. Richelle Villaprado said the displaced families were provided with food, folding beds, and other basic needs.

She added that interviews for financial assistance is currently ongoing.

A family whose house was destroyed will receive P15,000 in cash aid and P10,000 for each partially damaged house./PN
