ILOILO – A driver of a passenger van was detained at the police station in Jaro, Iloilo City after confessing to a hijacking hoax.

No “carnapping” occurred, according to Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) spokesperson Police Major Rolando Araño.

The 44-year-old driver, Marlou Parcon, first told the Zarraga Municipal Police Station (MPS) that five individuals commandeered his passenger van plying the Iloilo-Caticlan route and that they left him in Lemery town north of Iloilo City.

Parcon later confessed he made the story up for failing to remit his earnings amounting to P11,000.

“Ang driver nag himo-himo lang gid sang istorya (The driver made the story up),” said Araño.

The passenger van was recovered in Barangay Luna, Jaro, Iloilo City where the driver himself left it.

Jean Bengan of RJB Star Transport Service Inc. said they discovered the unit missing around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27.

“It was still parked in our garage the night before. We were supposed to be informed if it left in the morning,” said Bengan in Hiligaynon./PN
