ILOILO – A 71-year-old woman died after a van hit her around 10 a.m. yesterday, August 16, in Barangay Pagdugue, Dumangas town.
Lucy Hortillosa, a resident of Barangay Tabucan, Barotac Nuevo, sustained severe body injuries. She was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
According to Staff Sergeant John Mark Tuazon, investigator of the Dumangas Municipal Police Station (MPS), Hortillosa was about to go home after paying her electricity bill at the Iloilo Electric Cooperative II office when the accident happened.
She was crossing the street when a van driven by Reno Cerbas, 45, and a resident of Barangay san Roque, Barotac Viejo, accidentally hit her, Tuazon said.
The said vehicle was owned by the Barotac Viejo local government.
Cerbas, in an interview, said he did not notice the elderly crossing the street.
The driver was detained at the Dumagas MPS. He will face charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide./PN
