Van hits Pavia jeep; one dead

ILOILO – A passenger-loaded van hit a public utility jeepney and consequently mounted on the center island in Barangay Mali-a, Pavia town on Sunday night, March 17.

The van driver, identified as Rogillo Lastimoso, 50, and a resident of Barangay Banwa Road, Lambunao, succumbed to severe head and body injuries. He was the last to be retrieved by responders after getting stuck in the vehicle.

Sustaining various injuries were his passengers: Gemma Lastimoso, 44; Michael Lastimoso, 20; and Mary Grace De Asis, 47, all residents of Lambunao.

Also in the van were John Denver Matin, 43, and Shyne Matin, 40, both from Mandurriao, Iloilo City; and three minors aged three to 11.

According to the Pavia municipal police, the jeepney was parked on the outer lane of the national highway at approximately 6:55 p.m. when the van from Lambunao en route to Iloilo City crashed against its tail.

The jeepney driver was identified as Rolando Rebadomia, 62, and a resident of Barangay Ungka 1, Pavia. Fortunately, he was already counting his earnings for the day and had no passengers left when the incident occurred./PN
