MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels continued its winning ways in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference after a 25-20, 24-26, 28-26, 25-20 victory over ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles on Tuesday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Brooke Van Sickle finished with 27 points, built on 25 attacks and two service aces, to go with 12 excellent digs as the Angels notched their sixth consecutive victory for a 7-1 win-loss slate.
“I am just trying to do my best for the team, we just talked as a team, we tried to stay calm,” Van Sickle said during her Player of the Game interview. “We did a lot of errors and we just have to learn from them.”
Myla Pablo added 22 markers, on 19 attacks and three blocks, while Mar Jana Phillips contributed 10 markers, and Djanel Cheng contributed nine excellent sets for the Angels.
“I though the ZUS Coffee did a spectacular job, their defense was insane, I think that was the best defensive teams I played in a while,” Van Sickle said. “They tested our patience a lot.”
“Our opponent is a scrappy team, they pushed us to the limit, like mentally and physically, we just have to calm and collected, and our team did that,” added the Filipina-American volleybelle.
Kate Santiago tallied 21 points, on 20 attacks and one block, while Ilongga Glaudine Troncoso added 19 markers as the Thunderbelles saw their two-game winning run snapped to drop to a 4-5 record. (AC)
Meanwhile, PLDT High Speed Hitters showcased their superior firepower and composure to defeat Farm Fresh Foxies in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19.
Savannah Davison spearheaded the offense with 26 points, including the last four points that wrapped up the High Speed Hitters’ sixth victory in nine matches to move up to 6-3 in the standings.
Mika Reyes tallied 10 points, Erika Santos, Majoy Baron, and Fiola Ceballos chipped in nine, eight, and six markers, respectively, while rookie setter Angeline Alcantara also made her presence felt with 12 excellent sets and four points for PLDT./PN
