KALIBO, Aklan – Aside from pickpockets, vandals were also giving police officers in this capital town a hard time.

Not one culprit in defacing government and private properties was arrested or confessed to being behind abstract drawings on walls.

Walls of the Kalibo Elementary School along XIX Martyrs Street, the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital on Veterans Avenue, and the Gomburza Shrine were graffitied using spray paint.

Graffiti were also seen on walls of other schools and apartments, and stores, banks and other commercial buildings.

The situation did not sit well with local officials anymore.

The Sangguniang Bayan called Chief Inspector Terence Paul Sta. Ana, police chief, to a session on May 25 to explain what appeared to be a vandalism spree in the town.

Initial reports had it the vandals were a group of minors or gangs riding motorcycles.

Police said the graffitiing happened at night or in the wee hours of the morning.

Vandals left no evidence that can be traced back to them except their graffiti signatures, graphic pieces and tags in bright colors.

“We already informed the police about these vandalisms,” a school helper told this reporter. “We just painted over these vandals. They make our school look ugly.”

Police were asking the public for any information leading to the arrest of the culprits. They may be reached via phone numbers 166 or 09399167066. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
