MANILA Once Senate Bill No. (SBN) 1295 is enacted into law, children aged up to 12 years belonging to poor  households, can avail of a 20-percent discount and exemption from value-added tax upon the purchase of certain goods from establishments.

Sen. Grace Poes bill provides discount to junior citizenswhose family is earning only P250,000 and below a year, when buying medicines, vaccines and essential medical supplies, accessories and equipment.

Ang mga benepisyong nakapaloob sa ating panukalang batas ay tiyak na makapagbibigay ng subsidiya sa mga pangangailangan ng mga pamilyang mahirap. Dapat maging katuwang ng mahihirap ang gobyerno sa pagpapabuti ng kanilang estado sa buhay,the senator said.

Under SBN 1295, beneficiaries shall also enjoy discounts and VAT exemptions on professional fees of attending physicians in all private, medical facilities, outpatient clinics, home health care services and service providers.

The 20 percent discount and VAT exemption shall also apply to medical and dental services, diagnostics and laboratory fees in all private hospitals; admission fees on theaters, concert halls, leisure and amusement parks; and on funeral and burial services.

Junior citizens availing of medical and dental services, diagnostics and laboratory in government-run hospitals and health facilities shall not be charged any fee, the bill stated.

Her measure also makes them automatic members of state health insurer Philippine Health Insurance Corp., she said.

This proposed legislation would surely help every poor Filipino familys financial constraints, raise their level of living and improve their quality of life,Poe concluded./PN
