VAWC cases drop in Capiz

CAPIZ – Incidents of Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) in the province dropped to 45 in 2022, compared to 69 cases in 2021, according to the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO).

CPPO public information officer Major Ruby Magallanes said the decrease in violators of Republic Act 9262, or the “Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004” indicates heightened awareness of women’s rights.

Husbands, former husbands, boyfriends, ex-boyfriends, partners or any person with a dating or sexual relationship with a woman are usually liable for VAWC violations, she added.

“Commonly committed by the perpetrators based on reported cases at various local police stations’ Women and Children Protection Desk are physical, psychological, sexual and economic abuses,” she said.

Abused women must not be afraid to report to authorities as there are a lot of government agencies that could help them, she added.

The CPPO spokesperson also shared that no VAWC complaint against any police personnel under the CPPO was received in the past year.

The CPPO kicked off its National Women’s Month activities on Monday, March 6, highlighting women’s empowerment in the celebration. (PIA)/PN
