BACOLOD City – This city will conduct a free coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination for all pregnant and breastfeeding mothers here from Sept. 22 to Sept. 30.
The vaccination for pregnant women who are on their second or third trimester (three months and above), and breastfeeding mothers will be conducted at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central here from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This will be spearheaded by the city’s Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF), COVID-19 Vaccination Council (CoVaC), and the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS)-Negros Occidental Chapter.
Expectant and breastfeeding mothers interested to get vaccinated on said dates are required to bring the medical certificate from their obstetrician; ultrasound result; and mother’s book.
Pregnant and recently pregnant women are more likely to experience severe COVID, according to City Administrator Em Ang, also the executive director of the EOC.
An unvaccinated seven-month pregnant resident of this city succumbed to COVID-19 on Sept. 5.
The woman’s unborn child also died.
According to the World Health Organization, the benefits of the vaccine may be greatest for pregnant women at highest risk from COVID-19, such as frontline health workers, people living in areas of high transmission and those with health conditions like hypertension (high blood pressure) and diabetes./PN
