KALIBO, Aklan – Voters and candidates in the 17 municipalities of Aklan will have the chance to observe the actual use of vote counting machines (VCM) in a demonstration roadshow.
Atty. Rommel Benliro of the Commission of Elections (Comelec-Aklan) said the roadshow started Monday, Feb. 18 and will run until Feb. 28 in preparations for the midterm polls.
Kalibo was the first town to conduct the VCM roadshow on Feb. 18, followed by Batan and Altavas on Feb. 19. Scheduled next are Balete and Banga on Feb. 20, and Libacao and Madalag on Feb. 21.
Voters and the public in Makato and Tangalan will also familiarize with the new features of VCMs on Feb. 22 followed by Lezo and Malinao on Feb. 23.
Comelec will be moving for the roadshow in New Washington and Numancia on Feb. 25, Ibajay and Nabas on Feb. 26 to demonstrate and orient the voting and counting process.
VCM familiarization will take place also on Feb. 27 for Malay mainland and Boracay Island and Buruanga on Feb. 28.
After the roadshow, election officers, board of election supervisors and canvassers will undergo trainings on how to operate the VCMs.
Meanwhile, Benliro reminded the national and local candidates as well as party-list groups to observe the common poster areas or face sanctions.
The 90-day campaign period for party-list groups and senatorial candidates started on Feb. 12 to May 11. (Akean Forum/PN)
