ILOILO City – Charged with carnapping, a resident of Barangay Duyan-duyan, Santa Barbara, Iloilo was arrested in Bankers’ Village in Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro district.
Ernesto Penaso Jr., 46, was detained at the Santa Barbara police station custodial facility.
He was No. 5 on the list of wanted persons of the municipal police.
Officers from Santa Barbara and Jaro police stations served Penaso an arrest warrant at around 12 noon on Saturday.
Penaso was accused of violating Section 3 of Republic Act 10884, or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
He was an accomplice of Mario Engkanto, whom the Santa Barbara police arrested in September, said Senior Inspector Jose Rey Pabalan, municipal police officer-in-charge.
Engkanto was currently detained at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan town, said Pabalan.
Presiding Judge Daniel Antonio Gerardo Amular of the Regional Trial Court Branch 35 issued the warrant against Penaso and set the bail bond at P300,000./PN
