ILOILO City – Vehicles with four or more axles and/or a load of 27 tons or more are now prohibited from using or traversing the Buhang and Hibao-an flyovers.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP), during its recent regular session, approved an ordinance on this.
The new measure stressed that all roads and bridges have maximum load capacities to ensure its structural integrity.
“It is responsible to protect the integrity of all public infrastructures within the city for the safety of all pedestrians and vehicles and prevent any untoward incidents,” read part of the ordinance.
Axle is the pin, bar, shaft, or the like, on which or by means of which a wheel or pair of wheels of a vehicle rotates while load capacity refers to the maximum demand, stress, or load that may be placed on a given system under normal or otherwise specified conditions for an extended period of time. It refers to the capacity of a system to continue to perform its intended function when supporting a specific amount of weight.
The Public Safety and Traffic Management Office (PSTMO) is tasked to lead in the implementation of the ordinance in close coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Vehicles found violating the ordinance will be fined P5,000 and confiscation of driver’s license.
Confiscated driver’s license will be returned to the offending driver upon payment of fine.
