BACOLOD City – Manokan Country vendors are given a month to vacate the area located at the Reclamation Area in the city’s Barangay 12.

In a press conference yesterday, City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. said the City Legal Office (CLO) will serve today the notice to vacate.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez added that the 26 vendors have 30 days to transfer to the temporary space provided by the SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SPHI) at the parking area of the SM City Bacolod,  just across the Manokan Country.

“We will give them now a demand to vacate. Within 30 days they have to vacate. Kung gusto nila magsaylo ma-process sila sang ila Ceneco (Central Negros Electric Cooperative) connection,” Benitez added.

As part of the process in availing the temporary space for free, a  proper bidding for those interested Manokan vendors with no arrears in the city government will be awarded the space.

SPHI leased the city’s 16,875-square meter property, including the Manokan Country.

Effective this month, the Manokan Country will be demolished due to the redevelopment project. Earlier, the private firm has begun fencing the property to initiate their project in the area.

Also last April, informal settler families (ISFs) at the Reclamation Area received homelots from the city government after their structures were demolished due to the aforementioned redevelopment project./PN
