BACOLOD City – Victorias City is now among the few local government units in the Philippines to implement a car-free day.

Yesterday, June 26, the city observed a “Car-free Monday” as it kicked off the Environment Week 2023 celebration.

The city government said the activity aims to encourage individuals to reduce their daily carbon emissions and to use pedestrian lanes and pathways.

The Victorias City Environmental and Natural Resources Office, together with the Philippine National Police–Traffic Enforcement Management, implemented car-free zones on Jover, Montinola, and Yap Aquiña streets.

Designated drop-off and pick-up points were established, with special consideration to persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and pregnant women.

As part of the Environment Week activities, Victorias City will also sign a memorandum of agreement with Subay Marketing Inc. for the implementation of a residual plastic recycling system, as well as with the Victorias City Water District for the Bamboo Grove and Plantation Project in Barangay XI./PN
