BACOLOD City – The City of Victorias in Negros Occidental will celebrate its 26th Kadalag-an Festival, slated for March 14 to 24, in a new location.
Mayor Javi Benitez disclosed that this year’s festivities will move out of the city’s public plaza and will be held instead at the new government site called “Sidlak Victorias Global City.”
“This is the first time that will be happening there because it is always in the public plaza,” the mayor explained.
According to Benitez, Sidlak Victorias Global City could handle more festivalgoers since the plaza has become overcrowded and is experiencing traffic problems.
He also wanted to introduce the new area to its residents and tourists.
Despite the new location, the city government assured the residents and tourists that this year’s festival will still be as grand as, or even surpass last year.
“Preparations are underway for this, especially the site development and preparations for the staging in the area. The activity center is wide, and others will be there,” Benitez said, expressing his excitement about the festival.
Kadalag-an Festival, also called Victorias City Charter Day, celebrates the cityhood of Victorias. The 21st of March every year is a special non-working holiday in the city by virtue of Republic Act No. 9643 signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on June 11, 2009./PN
