ILOILO – Eight policemen who failed to report to work on Sept. 30 during the nationwide transport strike gave satisfactory explanations, according to Police Colonel Roland Vilela, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
The other 40 policemen will face summary hearing, Vilela said yesterday.
“They need to submit more pieces of evidence in the formal investigation,” he stressed.
The eight policemen who won’t be undergoing summary hearing had valid reasons, said Vilela.
Some were already on sick leave even before Sept. 30, he said.
The 40 policemen facing a full investigation, said Vilela, were from the police stations of Pavia, Oton, San Miguel, Maasin, and Cabatuan which he visited during the transport strike.
For those who claimed they were sick, they needed to submit medical certificates, said Vilela.
The summary hearing will be conducted by the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Division of the IPPO.
This is a “disciplinary action”, said Vilela.
One of the 40 policemen is the police chief of Pavia, Police Captain Niño Leonard Amar who was in Tapaz, Capiz on Sept. 30 inspecting the police tactical operation center there for possible replication in Pavia.
If that were so, said Vilela, why was he as police provincial director not informed about it, he asked.
As to the Cabatuan municipal police station chief who was also not in his post during the transport strike, Vilela said Police Lieutenant Joebert Amado remains on leave and is yet to submit his formal explanation./PN
