Village chief faces gun raps

ILOILO City – The village chief of Barangay Cahaguichican, Pototan, Iloilo was arrested around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17.

The 43-year-old Rolando Panizales, now in the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 6, is a gunrunning suspect.

According to Pototan police chief, Police Major Roy Tayona, they conducted an entrapment operation. They received information that he was engaged in gunrunning activities.

The raiding teams seized three units of a .45 gun with magazines worth P18,000.

“Homemade ang tatlo ka armas.  We are investigating the source of the guns. He has no other case aside sa gunrunning,” Tayona said.

Panizles faces charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director, Police Colonel Noel Aliño, said among his focus is the campaign against loose firearms.
