ILOILO City – A village chief was arrested in San Enrique, Iloilo for suspected shabu and unlicensed firearms.
The 47-year-old Elvie Paez of Barangay Lip-ac, San Enrique, was arrested at 4:10 p.m. in the town’s Barangay Palje on Monday, June 26.
Paez sold a sachet of suspected shabu for P1,000 to a police poseur buyer.
“He was under surveillance for almost three months after he was tagged by other drug pushers who were arrested before as a drug supplier. Target natin talaga sya at nakuha-an pa sya ng baril (He was our target and we also recovered unlicensed firearms),” Captain Johnny Oro, San Enrique chief, told Panay News.
Ten more sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P34,000 were recovered.
Police also found a homemade 12-gauge shotgun with a cartridge, a revolver, and five live cartridges of unknown caliber.
Paez was being held at the San Enrique Municipal Police Station.
He will be charged for violations of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and RA 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Police Regional Office 6 acting director Sidney Villaflor commended the arresting officers.
“Elected government officials engaging in illegal drugs have no place here,” said Villaflor./PN
