Village treasurer nabbed for ‘fake’ driver’s license

ILOILO City – A village treasurer fell in an entrapment operation in Barangay Ilongbukid, San Rafael, Iloilo for allegedly selling fake driver’s licenses.

The 49-year-old Mary Jean Bama, a treasurer of the said barangay, was caught around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, after handing a fake driver’s license to two complainants in exchange for P5,600.

The operation was carried out by the San Rafael police station and Land Transportation Office 6 (LTO-6) led by assistant regional director Gaudioso Geduspan.

Also recovered from the suspect were 10 pieces of falsified driver’s licenses, three pieces of LTO official receipts and buy-bust money.

“Before the entrapment operation was conducted two complainants went to our office kag nagreklamo. Ginpa-verify ko sa intelligence officers ko so nag-positive,” said Police Lieutenant Gener Buena, chief of the San Rafael police station.

Buena added, “Based sa aton investigation, ginasukot na (Bama) ang manogkuha driver’s license sang P5,600, then ipadala niya sa Manila sa kikala niya and after one week ara na ang license.”

The suspect was detained at the San Rafael police station, facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9485, or The Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007./PN
