BORACAY ISLAND – Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Friday expressed confidence that the various road improvements in this island will be completed in time for its reopening.
Villar conducted an ocular inspection of the ongoing improvement at the circumferential road in Bulabog area together with Environment secretary Roy Cimatu and other personnel of both departments.
“We are still on track,” he said when asked by the media.
Recently, there have been reports that some locals observed slow road works here.
Villar cited bad weather as one of the factors that sometimes hinder their works.
“We have instructions to further speed up the process. We are happy with the schedule but we want to further improve (our work), we want to further fast track (it),” he said.
Villar also assured that roads being improved are built to last, adding that the cement is 28 centimeters thick.
“This is really for commercial and resilience wise is high quality,” he said.
The improvement of the roads in this island is one of the main features of the ongoing rehabilitation here.
In an interview on July 25, Al Fruto, assistant regional director of the DPWH in Western Visayas, said that the P50 million rehabilitation and improvement of the missing gap of the circumferential road in Bulabog area is already 60 percent completed.
Meanwhile, the P490 million rehabilitation and improvement of the 4.12-kilometer main road from Cagban Port to Elizalde property is now 15 percent completed, said Fruto.
The clearing or roads and demolition of the structures for the road widening project in the said main road is now 85 percent done.
Once these roads will be completed, Villar said improvements of other roads in the island will continue.
Meantime, Cimatu said that one of these days, the whole stretch of the circumferential road will be opened for vehicles because they are planning to totally close the main road to hasten its improvement. (PNA)
