ROXAS City — A vintage cannon and a suspected vintage bomb were found by five fishermen in Barangay Barra.
Weighing more or less half a ton, the cannon was on display at the city hall courtyard as of this writing.
The suspected vintage bomb, on the other hand, was turned over to the Sigma police chief Senior Insp. Ramil Entereso, an explosives expert, for safekeeping and confirmation.
Richard Diaz, Rex dela Cruz, Rocky Baylon, Sandy Baylon, and Rudy Salayao found the items along the shoreline of Barangay Barra at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.
They then informed the barangay captain, who in turn informed the Roxas city police.
Supt. Julio Gustilo Jr., city police director, said the city government wants the cannon examined by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines to determine its age.
According to Gustilo, the items were believed to have sunk with a galleon during the Spanish rule in the country./PN
