MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts- NOPSSCEA cruised to a 3-0 start in the Cebu-Bacolod Goodwill Games at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu here yesterday.
The Thunderbolts got huge numbers from Alyssa Bertolano, Myrtle Escanlar and Kiesha Bedonia to sweep University of San Carlos’ college team, 25-8, 25-19.
Bertolano was efficient with her attacks, while Escanlar and Bedonia were on point with their powerful hits. Young setter Katherine Shaine Cortez also did well in her role of distributing the ball to her teammates.
Bertolano, who drew interest from the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, was also impressive in the Thunderbolts’ 25-13, 25-12 sweep over the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Team A.
Earlier in the games, the Thunderbolts cruised to an easy 25-5, 25-7 triumph over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Team B.
Alijah Ysulan emerged as the top player for the NOPSSCEA representatives in their victory, while team captain Shane Carmona and Gwen Bañas also had their fair share of contributions.
In its next mission, Bacolod Tay Tung is set to clash against University of San Jose-Recolectos college team this morning to conclude the elimination round.
The top two squads of the elimination round will advance in the championship slated this morning, while the third and fourth ranked squads will contest for the tournament’s bronze./PN
