MANILA – Vice President Leni Robredo was tagged by Sen. Franklin Drilon as the “most qualified” to be the country’s next president.
“Right now, there is no question Vice President Leni Robredo to us is the most qualified to be the next president,” the Ilonggo senator and vice chairman of the Liberal Party (LP) told ABS-CBN News Channel’s Headstart on Tuesday.
While LP eyes Robredo to run for presidential post in 2022 national elections, Drilon said it is Robredo’s personal decision whether she will run or not.
“We will support her but the matter of running is a personal decision and up to this point Vice President Leni Robredo has not decided to cast her hat in the national political race,” he said.
The Vice President, meanwhile, in her previous statement said she preferred to run for local office but is open to the possibility of her running to next election.
On the other hand, Drilon clarified that LP has not yet discussed about the possibility of supporting Manila Mayor Isko Moreno for 2022 polls.
“I have heard of this (reports of LP supporting Moreno). The Liberal Party has not taken an official position about it. We haven’t even met to discuss this. Maybe we should in order to discuss this,” Drilon said.
Moreno was also eyed by the newly-formed 1Sambayan Party to be their standard bearer. The Mayor refused to entertain politics so far, saying his focus is on the coronavirus disease 2019 situation in Manila./PN
