MANILA – Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio on Friday asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to postpone its hearing on her alleged death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and others.
According to NBI director Jaime Santiago, Duterte-Carpio was unable to attend as she belatedly found out about the postponement of her scheduled hearing before the House of Representatives.
“Late na niya nalaman na canceled ang kaniyang appearance before the House committee hearing. Hindi na siya nakapunta dito and asked for a resetting,” Santiago said in a press conference.
Santiago added that the NBI set December 11 as the new tentative date for the hearing.
The NBI subpoenaed Duterte-Carpio to shed light on her statement that she contacted an assassin to kill President Marcos, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, should an alleged plot to kill her succeed.
The Department of Justice earlier stated that Duterte-Carpio could face complaints for libel, defamation, and grave threat for her remarks against the President.
Duterte-Carpio clarified that her statement was taken out of context and said that the “revenge” plot had a specific condition and does not constitute to an active threat./PN
