GUIMARAS – Mayor Eugenio Reyes of Buenavista town has allowed wakes and vigils for the dead up to 25 days.
His June 8 Executive Order No. 026 revoked the earlier EO No. 036-2021 that restricted “wake and vigil activities, as well as burial…at a maximum of 10 days from the date of death.”
EO No. 036-2021 deemed large gatherings of people as “super-spreader events”.
In issuing his latest EO, Reyes pointed to the decreasing cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Buenavista.
“The municipality recorded a single COVID-19 positive case for the past three months,” according to Reyes.
As of June 15, Buenavista just had four active COVID-19 cases – two cases each from barangays Pina and Tinadtaran./PN
