BACOLOD City – About 10,500 people from various sectors joined the walk against illegal drugs in the city.

The Community Anti-Drug Coalition of Bacolod (CADCoB) organized Friday’s fund-raising event dubbed “Lakad Iwas Droga,” which began at 6:30 a.m.

The activity aimed to heighten the awareness of Bacolodnons on the harmful effects of drugs and make them advocates of drug prevention.

Students, teachers, government employees, police officers, force multipliers, girl and boy scouts, and members of socio-civic groups, among others, joined the walk.

The walk had two starting points and culminated with a program at the public plaza.

CADCoB coordinator Richard Nessia said 3,500 participants walked from the Sacred Heart Shrine while 7,000 marched from the Negros Occidental provincial capitol.

Nessia added that they have yet to finalize the total amount raised during the activity.

The amount will be used to finance CABCoB programs – like youth training, drug surrenderer training and streetlight installment around the city.

Brandon Hudspeth, director of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the United States Embassy in Manila, was the guest of honor.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, Liga ng mga Barangay president Noli Villarosa, Bacolod City Police Office head Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, and CADCoB chairman Rey Jereos were also present. (With a report from PNA/PN)
