ILOILO – A fugitive was arrested in Sitio Dulunan, Barangay Canabajan, Calinog town yesterday, June 24.
Jairus Jun Napoles, 33, originally from Barangay Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat, was finally caught after several years of hiding here.
He was arrested at around 11:20 a.m., by joint operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the Laguna 63rd Special Action Force (SAF) and the Calinog police station.
According to Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director, Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, the suspect faces the following charges:
* murder – arrest warrant issued by Judge Lorenzo Balo of the Regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 19, Isulan, Sultan, Kudarat on March 16, 2020 with no bail recommended
* forcible abduction with rape (no bail recommended) and theft with a P10,000 bail – arrest warrants issued by Judge Renato Gleyo, RTC, Branch 19, Isulan, Sultan, Kudarat on Nov. 13, 2017
* two counts of violation of Article II, Section 11 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act – arrest warrant issued by Judge Lorenzo Balo, RTC, Branch 19, Isulan, Sultan, Kudarat on June 17, 2020, with a recommended bail of P200,000 for each case
Gorero said a P130,000 bounty was placed on Napoles by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular 2019-90.
Calinog police chief, Police Captain Dadjie Delima said the suspect has been in the town since 2015.
His mother reportedly told him to go to Iloilo and hide with a relative when they got wind that criminal cases had been filed against him.
“The suspect was working in the sugarcane plantation and he told us that he was here since 2015,” Delima told Panay News.
His whereabouts was ascertained after one of his relatives revealed to the CIDG that he was in Iloilo.
The CIDG Laguna had been coordinating with the Calinog police since last week, until his arrest.
He was brought back to Sultan Kudarat./PN
