ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) needs more patrol cars and motorcycles, said its director Senior Superintendent Martin Defensor.
He recently inspected police stations in the districts of Jaro, La Paz, Mandurriao, Arevalo, Molo, and the City Proper.
“Police stations have an average of two patrol cars. But some of the cars are old. What we need are motorcycles that could run after criminals. Bentaha kasi if motorcycles gamitin natin. Madali makaiwas sa traffic,” said Defensor.
This week or next week the city government would release nine new patrol cars to the ICPO, revealed Defensor.
He had a meeting with Mayor Jose Espinosa III last week regarding the need for these.
One of the patrol cars would be for the use of the ICPO’s Women’s and Children’s Desk to secure vagrant minors at night.
“The new patrol cars would be a big help in enhancing police presence. We need to be visible on all streets to discourage criminals from striking,” said Defensor.
The ICPO director also recently checked firearms issued to policemen.
“Kasi baka ang iban nakasangla or naibenta,” said Defensor./PN
