ILOILO City – Gilbert Esler of Igbaras, Iloilo found a way to avoid the police officers out to arrest him: through his nipa hut’s back door.
It was not exactly an original escape route for a fugitive of the law but it was enough for Esler – who police said is the No. 2 most wanted person in Igbaras – to evade arrest.
Esler was charged with violation of the Republic Act 8294, the law amending Presidential Decree No. 1866, which regulates the possession, manufacture, dealing in, acquisition, or disposition of firearms, ammunition or explosives, or instruments used in making them.
The officers who went to his nipa hut around 5:30 p.m. in Barangay Pasi were out to serve him a warrant of arrest.
Instead of finding Esler, they recovered from the hut 12-gauge shotguns and a hand grenade, a police report showed.
Another charge will be filed against Esler, this time for illegal possession of firearms and explosive, said the police./PN
