BACOLOD City – The local government unit of this city has reactivated the Solid Waste Education and Enforcement Team (SWEET) to ensure the strict implementation of the “no segregation, no collection” policy.
Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said this move came after cell No. 2 at the sanitary landfill site in Barangay Felisa is now ready to be turned over to the city in March.
He added that the “no segregation, no collection” policy is a must in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
According to Familiaran, the city government has tasked barangay officials to conduct the education information campaign (EIC) in their respective barangays concerning this matter.
He said that it is the responsibility of the barangay to set the schedule of collection for their constituents and also to inform IPM-Construction and Development Corporation.
Last week, the city council granted the request of Mayor Evelio Leonardia for an authority to sign the two separate contracts of services between the city government and IPM-CDC.
The contract is in relation to the environment and sanitary services of the city which the IPM-CDC will collect and haul the garbage in the city with a contract amount of P164,970,118.40 that will cover from the period of March 1 to Dec. 31 of this year. The other contract is for the management and operation of the sanitary landfill facility in Barangay Felisa, covering the period of March 1 to Dec. 1, 2020 in the amount of P79,697,040.19./PN
