KALIBO, Aklan — Two municipalities in Aklan were among the recipients of water supply projects from the national government.
Balete and Libacao, along with 28 other towns across the country, were the identified beneficiaries of the Tourism Water Supply Infrastructure Program (Twsip).
Balete, a fourth-class town with 10 barangays, and Libacao, a third-class town comprising 24 barangays, were among the seven beneficiaries in Western Visayas.
Others were President Roxas and Jamindan in Capiz, San Carlos City and Murcia in Negros Occidental, and the component city of Passi in Iloilo.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), projects implementer, said the beneficiary towns need to provide sustainable and safe water supply to harness their tourism potentials.
Twsip, with a cost of P1.7 billion, targets 30 municipalities and cities in the country.
It is a joint undertaking of the DPWH, Local Water Utilities Administration, Department of Tourism, and the National Anti-Poverty Commission.
It is also supported by the United States Agency for International Development.
Detailed engineering design and water source development for the projects will begin once the Department of Budget and Management releases the funding.
Beneficiary local governments in Visayas and Mindanao are Jetafe, Talibon and Trinidad in Bohol; Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City; Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte; Zamboanga City in Zamboanga del Sur; Aloguinsan, Toledo City, and Barangay San Fernando, Sibonga, in Cebu; Nabunturan and Montevista in Compostela Valley; and Asuncion, Braulio E. Dujali and Carmen New Corella in Davao del Norte.
