ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) opened the 17-day Specialized Course on Investigation of Crimes Involving Women and Children on Thursday, Nov. 24, via Zoom.
There are 64 participants – all Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) personnel of different police units and mobile forces across the region. They will be trained by legal service, prosecutors, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Major Grace Borio, said the WCPD must be equipped with training in filing criminal cases.
“Being a WCPD investigator is not easy, they must have an ability in assessing the victim and win their trust and confidence for them to fully cooperate,” Borio said.
Borio added that in this course, participants will be learning laws relative to gender-based violence and its application, different techniques on how to conduct interviews with victims of abuse, especially children, craft affidavits, and familiarize themselves with protocols that will aide them in different scenarios that they might encounter as they render their duties as WCPD investigators.
“After 17 days, we expect that they are more efficient and effective investigators,” she added.
On the other hand, more than 50 personnel will also undergo a five-day training on Next Generation Investigation Solution (NGIS), to be held at the Rio Hall of the PRO-6, Camp Gen. Martin Teofilo B. Delgado.
“We expect more trainings and seminars to be conducted for our reformation,” Borio said./PN
