We thought we have martial law

IT IS OUR routine to go to our TV set and see what is in the news after we wake up in the morning and wash our face, but on Wednesday morning there was none.

The popular ABS-CBN TV station is off the air because its franchise has expired and it was not renewed.  Moreover, there was also a “lockdown” imposed by the Iloilo City government and it was so quiet around.  We thought there was Martial Law again as we recalled when Martial Law was imposed during the time of Marcos with radio and TV shuttered.

We asked and we’re glad that it was only a “lockdown” as called under the present administration.

How long will this last? In a way it is good as most people have to stay at home because of the virus scare.

We believe that many of us will miss ABS-CBN’s TV programs and entertainment. If it is not restored soon.  Is it true that there is a big business conglomerate from the south who is interested to take over?  Abangan!

In the local scene, there was a shooting last week of activist Jerry Porquia at a time when he was reportedly trying to return to normal life.  He was putting up a carinderia at Villa Beach. Whatever he was or what he did that prejudiced anyone, why didn’t they file charges against him? When can we get rid of these “cowards” who prefer to use the gun than their brain?

Bacolod City and Negros Occidental officials are once again pursuing the idea of a One-island Region so they will detach themselves from Region 6.  What  will happen is that there will be a Visayas Region VI-A  and  Negros Oriental which currently belongs to Region 7 will be added to Bacolod City and Negros Occidental to form the new region to be created.

We are asking the Negrosanons from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental how much do they know those from Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City? They speak the Cebuano dialect and most of them have business connections to Cebu. By nature, they are a bit frugal in handling their finances in contrast to the gallant nature of the Bacolodnons and those from Negros Occidental.

We have worked in Negros Oriental and lived in Dumaguete City when we were working with a commercial bank, and that is how we came to know the people there. Even the well-off ones are very frugal in their way of living, while the Negrosanons from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are more “gallant” in spending. We doubt if you will easily adjust with them socially because most of you had your roots from Iloilo City.
