BY simply showing up at the ballroom of the ABS-CBN Ball on Saturday, music superstar Regine Velasquez unleashed a tsunami of speculation as to the future of her already storied career.
Velasquez, who attended the charity event with her husband Ogie Alcasid and step-daughter Leila, has been decidedly mum in recent weeks amid rumors of her supposed transfer to the Kapamilya network.
In photos now being widely shared online, Velasquez can be seen posing with ABS-CBN executives, including chairman emeritus Gabby Lopez, COO of Broadcast Cory Vidanes, and Dreamscape unit head Deo Endrinal.
The “Dadalhin” hitmaker being at the ABS-CBN Ball is momentous for a number of reasons – not only is it her first time at the annual event, which started in 2006 as the Star Magic Ball; it’s also impeccable timing, given recent, unconfirmed reports that she is finalizing switching networks.
While Velasquez skipped the red carpet, Alcasid, who walked with Leila, was quizzed on the rumored career move of his wife.
He did not confirm nor deny the speculation: “Basta ako, bilang asawa niya, laging full support para sa kanya, at excited ako para sa kanya, kung anuman ang mangyayari. It’s a blessing, always. Iyon lang.”
Velasquez, 48, has been identified with GMA-7 for a greater part of her three-decade career. Along with now-Kapamilya stars Alcasid, Jaya, and Janno Gibbs, Velasquez was among the mainstays of the network’s now-defunct concert variety show “SOP.”
With her long-time co-performers having transferred to ABS-CBN in succession, Velasquez has been teased numerous times this year about following suit, but would only give playful answers.
Now making a rare appearance at ABS-CBN’s biggest annual event, Velasquez appears to have sent a message to her fans, drumming up expectations of an inked contract as a Kapamilya in the coming months. (ABS-CBN News)
