AS A PARTNER in promoting wellness and health, NEARSOL joins Iloilo City’s efforts by sponsoring brand new bicycles for the “Iloilo Bike Festival 2022”.
Many are discovering and rediscovering the joy of riding bicycles – the wind on your face, the thrill of going up and down an incline, and the scenery as you pedal along to your destination. For the young and young-at-heart, it has become more than just a mode of transportation, a sport, or even a hobby. It’s a way of life.
Going for a ride is good for the heart and the muscles. It improves balance, the way you walk, and how you climb the stairs. Healthwise, biking lowers the amount of cortisol. (Cortisol levels are high in people diagnosed with depression. High levels negatively affect sleep quality.) It also releases endorphins in your body. Endorphins are said to interact with receptors in your brain that reduce pain and increase feelings of joy and pleasure. Further, (and this benefit is not known to many), biking is a great way to enter into a meditative state. Staying aware of your surroundings and rhythmic pedaling can reduce anxiety and relax your mind. Of course, the better-known benefits should also be emphasized – healthy weight loss, a stronger immune system, muscle strength, lung function, coordination, endurance, and stamina.
With all these in mind, Iloilo City, as the regional center of Western Visayas, aims to be known as the “Bike Capital of the Philippines”. The City Government has seen not only the importance of biking as a hobby or sport but as an environment-friendly and budget-friendly way of getting around. This year, the Iloilo City Government, and the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI) have joined with other stakeholders to mount the “Iloilo Bike Festival 2022” with the theme “#BikeKaNaman sa Iloilo City – A Safe, Scenic and Sustainable Biking in Iloilo City”.
The Iloilo Bike Festival takes place from July 29-31, 2022 at the Iloilo Business Park and will include thousands of bike enthusiasts from Iloilo City and different parts of the Visayas.
Iloilo is truly becoming a city of wellness. Even before the pandemic, the city’s efforts have been directed towards the promotion of a lifestyle trend catering to health. Bikers and health enthusiasts have been enjoying the conveniences of the Diversion Road Bike Lanes, the Megaworld Boulevard Bike Lanes, as well as the running paths along the Iloilo River Esplanade and Plaza Libertad.
