ILOILO City – Two hundred forty-six neophyte police officers completed their basic training course on combat operations and tactics on June 29, signaling the start of their career in the police service.
According to Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, the rookie cops underwent a six-month Public Safety Basic Recruit Course (PSBRC) that started on Nov. 9 last year.
“The training was designed to provide the newly-appointed police non-commissioned officers with the basic knowledge and skills in police science, administration, combat operations and tactics,” Malong said.
PSBRC is the preparation of recruits as guardians of peace and protectors of lives and properties. It teaches the right conduct and values required in police work.
During the completion ceremony at the Regional Training Center 6 in Bacolod City, PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda commended the recruits for “successfully hurdling the training” and wished them good luck as they start to venture into the police world.
“Ngayon pa lang ang simula kung paano ninyo i-a-apply ang mga itinuro sa inyo dito sa RTC (Regional Training Center),” Miranda said, pointing out the importance of the PSBRC as a foundation course of every police officer.
The 246 recruits – 203 males and 43 females – were the successful applicants of the 2020 recruitment cycle.
These new police officers will be undergoing field training in various police stations in the region.
Meanwhile, in the first week of June, the PRO-6 sent 500 police officers to augment the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) in manning border control points, and additional police presence on the streets.
Last week, another 356 police officers were sent to the provincial police offices composed of 291 males and 65 females.
These include Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) – 142, Aklan – 25, Antique – 21, Capiz – 15, Guimaras – 21, Negros Occidental – 100 and Bacolod City – 32./PN
