ILOILO City – Western Visayas so far received4,290 vials or 25,740 doses of the United States-manufactured Pfizer vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from the National Vaccination Operations Center.
A vial is good for six doses.
Data (as of July 2) from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 6 showed that the doses were distributed to these areas:
* Negros Occidental – 11,700
* Capiz – 2,340
* Iloilo City – 5,850
* Iloilo province – 5,850
According to Cindy Ferrer, spokesperson of OCD-6, the provinces of Aklan, Antique and Guimaras will also receive their allocation soon.
The Pfizer shots started arriving just this mid-June. Most jabs being shipped to the region were the China-made CoronaVac and British-Swedish AstraZeneca.
On June 30, Western Visayas received its biggest supply to date – 150,000 doses of Sinovac shots.
These were delivered one day prior the arrival of Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque in this city.
Here’s the breakdown of the allocation in doses: Aklan – 8,160; Antique – 8,240; Bacolod City – 7,800; Capiz – 10,840; Guimaras – 2,520; Iloilo – 27,640; Iloilo City – 50,000; and Negros Occidental – 34,800.
This July, the region would get more, according to Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“The surge (in COVID cases) already dissipated in the National Capital Region and adjacent provinces. As ordered by President (Rodrigo Duterte), it’s time for us to re-allocate more vaccines to the provinces, specifically in regions 6, 10, 11, and 12,” Densing said.
The government is expecting at least 11 million vaccine doses this July. The biggest chunk would be distributed to the aforementioned regions./PN
