‘Wet’ Holy Week in NegOcc seen due to Low Pressure Area

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – The city’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) is forecasting a rainy Holy Week next week due to a Low Pressure Area (LPA).

The Tropical Cyclone outlook of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) for April 11 to 17 forecasts a high likelihood of a storm forming and will likely recurve the Visayas-Southern Luzon area.

A second LPA is also seen to be forming outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but it will also likely recurve.

Dr. Anna Maria Laarni Pornan, head of the Bacolod City DRRMO, said it is possible that the rainy weather being experienced in the city and nearby towns and cities in Negros Occidental yesterday will likely last until April 11.

Pornan said they are also monitoring flood-prone areas in the city and the barangay officials were told to be wary of flashfloods due to heavy rainfall.

Residents living near rivers have already been told to prepare to evacuate if the water level continues to rise./PN
